Portable Appliance Testing

WHAT IS PORTABLE APPLIANCE TESTING? It involves checking the safety of plugs, sockets, cables and connectors on electrical equipment, and also the polarity and earthing integrity of equipment casings.

WHAT SHOULD BE TESTED? All appliances which carry an electricity plug and use mains voltage fall under the heading of portable appliances, whether fixed or portable.

WHY SHOULD IT BE DONE? The Electricity at Work Regulations requires every UK business to ensure the safety of electrical equipment by carrying out a regular inspection and test regime.

HOW OFTEN SHOULD EQUIPMENT BE TESTED:The length of time between checks range from 12–24 months for office and shop equipment, down to 3 months for construction site equipment. More precise frequency of testing figures are provided by the Health and Safety Executive (HSE).

WHO IS RESPONSIBLE: it is up to the employer to comply with the provisions of the safety at work regulations. However, it is also the duty of the employee to cooperate with their employer, as far as to enable any duty concerning the regulations placed on the employer, to be complied with.

CERTIFICATE: All tested equipment will be labeled with test date and re-test date and logged into our database so that the frequency of testing can be reviewed. A certificate of inspection report will be presented to the client on completion.

ADVICE: We will advise the client on frequency of inspection and provide a fault rectification and repair service for equipment failures.
